Researching The Market

Jenna Coleman: http://jenna-coleman.com/

Jenna Coleman's website is very bright and pretty, it has a lot of imagery displaying some of her modelling work. However to me this seems quite unprofessional as the photographs she has chosen are not headshots. Upon first impressions I felt the site looked like it could be fan made.

Going through each tab option, I found that the site itself has a few flaws, some of the links automatically open new tabs when some don't, also the information seems quite difficult to find, The links have more links, and the main picture collage is on every page, meaning you have to scroll past this to get to anything you want to see.

One positive is that at the top of the page there is a quick summary of her latest and most successful works, this is up to date and works as a simple yet effective advertisement.

In terms of contacting her, there is a small  box with some contact details on the site, it is on its own and quite small, but there is nothing for the fans. This and the style of the site makes me think that Jenna herself does not actively use this site. I feel she had a huge influence on the design when the site was first launched, but the lack of 'fan friendly features' leads me to believe she is distant from this.

Billie Piper: http://www.billiepiperofficial.com/

The main focal point on Billie Piper's website is the photograph of her as the background, this is clearly a part of a high end photo shoot, showing her class and modelling skills.

As she is mainly known as an actor, and singer in her earlier years, Piper has a drop down menu option to take any viewers to her page about her singing, television, stage and film career and her past projects.

There is also an option to look at her latest appearances, keeping her fans updated.

The link titled 'Videos' takes us to a page filled with personal and more formal clips of her appearances, live streams and behind the scenes. This allows people to get a personal insight into her career and learn about her.

Piper's contact page is very well made and easy to use, it displays every option and social media platform. It also has options for formal queries and also fan mail/autographs. Meaning her site is even more accessible for fans and industry individuals.

Although this website is very easy to navigate, and informative, it is quite plain. Each link has the information you may need, however it doesn't seem to express the actor we know on our screens, the site is very formal.

Emily Blunt: http://www.emilybluntonline.com/
At a first glance, this website looks very flashy and styled. The background picture is very edited but looks professional as it fits with the colour scheme of the site. It demonstrates her modelling abilities well. Because this is a fan made site, some of the tabs are empty, but the general style is well put together. There are some gaps in the site which suggest it was started and maintained well but has been left for a while. Available are photographs from red carpets, the press and her various works, some of which can be easily located but many of them seem to be mostly exclusive.
The lack of commitment is clear in this site, which is really important if you want it to be successful.

Meryl Streep: http://www.simplystreep.com/
On the home page of the site we see a styled headshot of Streep, with loots of options along the top, which all provide extensive information on the performer. It is clearly updated on a regular basis, with up to date information and photographs. The archives on the site include videos, pictures from her works and events and when she has been featured in magazines, showing a multimedia exploration. At the top Right corner, there is a search bar, leading to a Google search. There are clear links to a Tumblr, Twitter and email pages, which along with the general tone of the website, form as a promotional opportunity.

Zendaya Coleman: http://zendaya-coleman.com/wordpress/Zendaya/
Having browsed the site, it is difficult to tell wheher or not this is fan made of kept by Zendaya and her brand herself, due to the professional look, and how much information and pictures there are, along with updates on her latest projects, and links with her social media accounts. However one thing that lets it down is that the site itself is quite glitchy, it seems badly made, with some tabs that don't lead anywhere. Its colourful appearance makes it easy to navigate and coordinates with her fun loving celebrity profile, whilst showing off her acting singing and modelling skills all together.

When comparing, British actors websites seem more professional looking and strict. They include personal aspects, but their appearance is much more formal. Unlike the American sites I found, which in my opinion reflect their personalities much more. I feel this is because the British sites I found need to appeal to a different audience of people, depending on what kind of work the actor would be looking for. Billie Piper's site is sleek and formal, suggesting she would want high end agents to be looking at it.

key points for a website:
From researching successful websites, I have found that most of them have some key features in common

  1. Contact details
  2. Headshots
  3. Show reel
  4. Professional presentation (font, layout, links)
  5. Personal summary of what you do
  6. CV
  7. Gallery (current and past works, photo shoots)
  8. History of education/training
